Educational Interventions in school canteens completed
12 May 202610 schools participating in the project have implemented an educational intervention to assess its impact on reducing food waste.

During the month of March, three types of educational interventions took place in 10 schools participating in the GUSTOS project, which, at the beginning of the school year, quantified food waste in their canteens.
The educational interventions, coordinated by the Espigoladors Foundation, were developed through three lines of action: training for canteen staff, a proposal for educational games during lunchtime, and an intervention based on service-learning projects during school hours.
After having carried out a food waste measurement at the beginning of the school year, each school monitors food waste during the implementation of the interventions and for a few months afterward, to obtain a record of food waste measurements before, during, and after each intervention, and thus evaluate its impact. It is expected that, by the end of the project, these actions will reduce food waste in participating school canteens by at least 15%.
